‘Shake your ass for justice!’
Successful Bristol fundraiser Galvanize! returns for its fourth instalment at Timbuk2 club on Thursday
November 20th
Raising crucial funds and awareness for the Free West Papua Campaign, everyone involved gives their time and talent for free, enabling 100% of profits to go to directly to the cause.
Promoter Sally Collister started the event after a visit to West Papua whilst travelling in Indonesia, and last year returned to pass on the support of the people of Bristol to their cause. The experience has made her even more determined to continue organising the Galvanize! events in Bristol – “I would love to never organize another Galvanize! again, as that would mean a peaceful resolution had been found but until then I’ll continue trying to raise funds and awareness through the universal language of music”.
Galvanize! proudly brings the No Fakin’ DJ’s down from Liverpool for the occasion, fresh from playing at festivals from Cambridgeshire to Croatia over the summer months bringing their all-encompassing, 4 turntable extravaganza to blow the roof off Timbuk2 – seamlessly fusing hip hop with reggae, funk, soul layered with live instruments, samplers, drum machines and more.
Bristol legend and long-time supporter of the campaign Rob Smith (Smith & Mighty) returns for more with an exclusive ‘Back to Back’ set with Joker – described by Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbes as “one of the sickest young producers on the vibrant Bristol scene”
Also on the bill is Bristol royalty Queen Bee, Ruffnek Diskotek’s Dub Boy, Ewan Hoozami of funk collective Funk From The Trunk, Moonmonkey and newcomer DJ aSiNe – party-goers can expect music as wide-ranging as Reggae, Dubstep, Breakbeat, Funk, Hip Hop, Ska and Drum & Bass, as well as live percussion from Bongo San.
Entry is £4 before 11pm, £5 after – an absolute bargain for all the talent on offer!
As one West Papuan Sally met during her visit last year said - “This generation must end the cries, the bones, the tears and the blood of our people…We urge the world to open their eyes...Please tell our brothers and sisters in the UK and Bristol”
