WPIA Demands Right to Define Self

PAPUAN, Wamena --- Dozens of people joined in Papua, West Papua Interest Association (WPIA) conducted a peaceful demonstration demanding the right to self-determination, yesterday afternoon, Tuesday (20/12), in Terminal Sinakma, Jayawijaya regency, Papua.

In a leaflet received Papuan Voices, there are 11-point written statement, including, since 13 September 2007, Indigenous West Papuans have become lawful permanent members at the headquarters of Indigenous People in the United Nations,
WPIA also is struggling to penyelesaiaan Papua issue through a referendum mechanism, or the right of self-determination based on the rules and mechanisms of the United Nations, Article 3, which is supported by 143 countries, including Indonesia.


Action coordinator, said Kim Tabuni Papua issue will not be resolved through dialogue in Papua and Jakarta, but will be thoroughly resolved through UN mechanisms in the Supreme internationally.
"This action is part of the referendum campaign for the right to self-determination," he said on the sidelines of the action.
Another point in writing the statement, WPIA expressed sincere gratitude to the government system of Indonesia, especially the military and police, for helping the indigenous West Papuans to work hard to fight for self-determination through various government launched military operations throughout Papua.
According to Andreas Wakerkwa, in charge of activities, similar actions will be held in all district cities in Papua.
